|
This 2-day comprehensive seminar will educate attendees on several facets of the grant-writing process, enabling you to write more persuasive grants. You will learn how to conduct grants research, develop a needs statement, create a budget, and assemble the proposal package. Coursework will cover the fundamental aspects of grant-writing, a guide for developing a workable budget narrative request, and strengthening relations with public and private funding agencies. You are encouraged to bring a grant proposal that you are currently working on to the workshop.
Day 1: Getting Started Writing a Grant Proposal This introductory grant proposal writing seminar will address the different types of grant awarding entities (e.g. state, local and federal governments, foundations, private donors, etc.) the proposal writing process, sources for identifying grants, the grant announcement and application processes, how to develop a needs statement and write other parts of a proposal, including the budget. (Note: This class is appropriate for beginning grant writers.)
Day 2: After Writing Your Grant This session will address two critical issues all proposal writers encounter when developing a budget request: How much money to request and how to justify that amount. Topics include: creating organizational vs. program budgets, learn the difference between direct versus indirect expenses, allocate your expenses over program areas, and how to calculate potential in-kind contributions. The second day also focuses on the final steps in the proposal development process and describes what typically occurs after a proposal is submitted. Participants will review a sample grant award; understand what is expected relative to grants management and the process for grant renewal.
